My shoulder practice includes arthroscopic surgery, rotator cuff surgery, instability procedures, biceps procedures, treatment of the acromioclavicular (AC) joint, and shoulder arthroplasty.

My knee practice includes knee arthroscopy, meniscus surgery, cartilage procedures, ligament reconstruction, and knee arthroplasty.

What is arthroscopic surgery?

Arthroscopy is minimally invasive surgery performed through small incisions using a camera and specialized instruments. It allows excellent visualization and treatment of many shoulder and knee conditions while minimizing disruption of surrounding tissues.

Where do you perform surgery?

I perform surgery at Memorial Hospital Gulfport and Memorial Surgery Center Cedar Lake.

What if I've already had surgery somewhere else?

Except for previous arthroplasty performed elsewhere, I generally accept patients who have had previous shoulder or knee surgery for evaluation and second opinions.

Do you treat Workers' Compensation injuries?

Yes. I treat Workers' Compensation injuries involving shoulder and knee problems.

Will I need to stay overnight after surgery?

Accepted Answer

All of my procedures are performed as outpatient procedures by default, including joint arthroplasty. Some patients may require an overnight stay because of medical conditions, while others may elect to stay overnight when appropriate.

When can I drive after surgery?

Accepted Answer

Most postoperative restrictions apply to activities in general rather than driving specifically. If driving can be performed safely within those restrictions, it is usually acceptable.

The patient must be off pain medication that could impair driving and must be physically and mentally able to safely control the vehicle. Return to driving is determined on a case-by-case basis depending on the procedure, recovery, and individual driving requirements.

When should I see a shoulder or knee specialist?

This is an individual decision, but a reasonable guideline is significant pain that persists for more than a few weeks, particularly after trying basic measures such as anti-inflammatory medication and ice. Pain that affects your function, work, sleep, exercise, or everyday activities is another good reason to be evaluated. Acute injuries with significant pain or loss of function may warrant earlier assessment.
